Complete Lighting Design and Implementation

Defy Lighting is a design firm that tracks projects from conceptualization, to implementation, and beyond to maintenance and support. We offer complete pipeline service with our team, handling everything from concerts, shows, conferences and other live events, to camera shoots for film and TV, to permanent installs like High School, restaurants, or creative/themed installations. Pre-Viz Suite - San Francisco Bay Area

At our headquarters in San Leandro, California, we have a fully-developed Pre-Viz Suite with all the tools needed to build a show completely from scratch or program a lighting rig and render in incredible quality. Our suite is climate controlled and has a kitchen with snacks and beverages for long programming sessions. We have a GrandMA3 Full-Size and ETC EOS Apex 10 available at any time, with Hog4/Hog5, Chamsys, Obsidian and Avolites consoles available upon request.

The Pre-Viz Suite is available with any console (or multiple consoles) of your choice, plus additional hardware such as media servers, rendering computers, additional pre-viz software and other software tools.

Rental of the Pre-Viz Suite starts at $1200 for an 8-hour day, or $1800 for 24-hour access per day. The suite comes with the console of your choice, as well as a support technician to ensure there are no issues (Suite is only staffed for 8 hours even with 24 hour access)

Additional consoles and hardware available at an additional cost.

CAD Drafting / Lighting Plot Drafting and Paperwork

For everything, including tours and events, we can get the production started with exceptional plots and paperwork. Our promise is the best outlines for your events, including 3D rendered environments, My Virtual Rig files which can be used for programming, and plenty of documentation to ensure shows are setup to be successful. We offer hourly remote labor to assist with developing a plan when time is of the essence and the venue needs the information. Our plans also cut down on the amount of improvisation on install days so that everything is off to a smooth start.

Our drafting and paperwork team starts at $50/hour and can develop plans in Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Lightwright, and more.

Concerts/Festivals

Planning a live music performance or a festival? Defy Lighting will design the systems behind the show and then design and program to the music! Good lighting with music is great, but spectacular lighting and music is forever.

Live Stage/Corporate Meetings

For all live stage events, we provide the design to ensure your presenters are seen both by an audience and the camera. We specialize in providing non-distracting atmosphere lighting while creating moments of excitement to engage the crowd.

Musicals/Plays/Dance

Whether you’re touring a show or creating one from scratch, Defy Lighting will assist in outfitting your show to best achieve the looks you want to create. We will work with local vendors to keep the production under budget while nailing a memorable live theatre experience. We will collaborate with other designers to realize your show to the fullest potential.

Film/TV/Streaming

Whether is a temporary production streaming to the internet or a studio install for an upcoming series, Defy Lighting will assist you in making the right choices to ensure your recorded or live streaming event is captured perfectly, with accents of lighting to enhance your scenes.

Parties/Galas/Fundraisers

Architectural/Permanent Install

We will design and support designs that will last for months to years, whether is Christmas lighting for the winter season, or a new museum exhibit that needs a special touch, we will build solid state systems that will run effortlessly for however long you require.
